GABAPENTIN
- A structural analog of gaba, exerts beneficial effects n neuropathic pain by bindng to the α-2-delta sub unit of voltage-dependant calcium channels.
- Inhibits ectopic discharge activity from injured peripheral nerves.
- Modify the spinal transmission of noxious mechanical input to spinal neurns via non-NMDA receptor antagonism.
- Produces similar efficacy with better tolerability & lessen adverse effects than tricyclic antidepressants.
LIDOCAINE
- Reduces discharges of small afferent nerve fibers by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels.
- Well tolerated & produces minimal systemic absorption at the recommended dose.
- Slows peripheral nociceptor sensitization & central hyper excitability.
- Effectively reduces burning sensation , autonomic hyperactivity & post surgical neuropathic pain.
